[ Drive Crew : Test Track Setup and Safety Procedures ]

Created by [ Rowan Dempster] on Dec 27, 2019

The "Test Track Setup And Safety Procedure" describes the setup process that drive-crew members must follow when testing the vehicle on the test track. Members must follow the safety procedure during testing to ensure the safety of pedestrians, drive-crew members, and the vehicle.

Heading to Test Track
Before heading to the test track, the Track Coordinator should ensure that everyone has everyone's phone number. The Track Coordinator should perform a headcount to keep a record of who is participating. This is to ensure that no one is left behind while heading to, and returning from the test track.

Identity the traffic cones on the shelf beside the autonomous vehicle. Assign a member to be responsible for the traffic cones. The member needs to count the number of traffic cones we have. The member will also bring the traffic cones to the parking lot. There should be 29 cones.

Next, based on the test track requests, the track coordinator checks that all the items required for the test are packed in the tow truck. Check that all items are packed properly so that they will not be damaged during transportation. The certified tow truck driver can now head to the test track.

After the tow truck departs, the safety driver checks with a mechanical member to ensure that all sensors on the car are installed properly. Track coordinator now opens the garage door in the bay and the door to the parking lot. The track coordinator needs to have a clear view of the car and the hallway to ensure that no students walk in front of the car. Once the hallway in E5 is clear, the safety driver can drive the car out to the test track.

The Track Coordinator know performs a headcount again to keep track of the number of driver-crew members left. After ensuring that no one is missing, the Track Coordinator now heads to the test track with the rest of the driver-crew members either through carpool, Uber, or bus.

After arriving at the test track, the track coordinator performs a headcount again to ensure that everyone arrives safely. The Track Coordinator should contact those who have not arrived to check that they are safe.

Setup
The safety driver needs should find a large empty space to park the car. The large empty space depends on the type of testing that needs to be completed.

Next, drive-crew members help the person responsible for the cones to spread the cones to cover a testing area. Once the cones are placed, it should look like this (the image needs to be replaced with our image after our first test in the test track):

Safety procedures during testing
The track coordinator should have a schedule ready for the testing session.

Only 4 members are allowed on the car at a time (3 drive-crew members and 1 safety driver).
all other driver-crew members must be outside of the area zoned by the traffic cones.

All drive-drew members outside of the zoned area act as guardians. Guardians ensure that no pedestrian enters the zoned area. There needs to be at least one guardian at all time.

When a test is finished, the safety driver should stop the car. The safety driver then steps out of the car and waves. This is the only time that drive-crew members can enter and exit the zoned area.

During this time, drive-crew members help set up the equipment needed for the next test.

Once all drive-crew members are either in the car or outside of the zoned area, the track coordinator raises one arm to signal that the next test can begin.

Clean up Procedure

The member responsible for the traffic cones can now collect the cones. Othe drive-crew members should help out. Count the number of traffic cones collected. Make sure the number matches the counted number at the beginning of the test track setup. The member responsible for the traffic cones should bring the cones back to the shelf that if found.

The driver-crew members now pack the equipment used for the test track session on the tow truck. The track coordinator checks that all equipment are packed properly so that they will not be damaged during transportation.

Heading to E5

After the items are packed, the certified tow truck driver can now head to the bay.

Next, the Track Coordinator ensures that all members are at least 5 meters away from the car. The safety driver can now drive to the E5 parking lot.

The Track Coordinator now performs a headcount to check the number of members left. After ensuring that no one is lost, the Track Coordinator takes everyone to the bay through the bus, Uber, or SDC vehicle.

Once arrived at the bay, the Track Coordinator performs a headcount to checks that all members have arrived (except the safety driver. The safety driver should be at the E5 parking lot). The track crew then unloads the items from the tow truck and returns them to their original place according to the inventory sheet.

The track coordinator then opens the E5 garage door and ensures that there is a clear path for the safety driver to drive the car back to the bay. All drive-crew members need to be at least 5 meters away from the car.

The safety driver can now drive the car back into the bay. In the process, the track coordinator should follow allonge and ensure that no pedestrians are in the safety driver's blind spot. The track coordinator also needs to keep a minimum distance of 5 meters.

The drive crew member returns to the bay and documents the test results drive crew proposal.

Everyone congratulates each other. The team captains thanks everyone for taking time out of their Sundays. It really means a lot for WATonomous.
