[ Knowledge Base : Mechanical Recruitment Process ]

Created by [ Rowan Dempster] on Dec 24, 2019

The mechanical recruitment process will begin 1 month prior to classes starting. This process will apply to all non-1A mechanical members.

Job Posting
The mechanical interview process begins with a job posting on the WATO website, which will be managed and promoted by Internal Affairs. There will be a single job posting for all Mechanical core member positions, with the description indicating possible teams they may join. The single job posting is to simplify and standardize the interview process and to prevent over/under demand for different teams. The job posting should open 8 weeks before the start of the term and close 4 weeks before the start of the term.

Interview Selection
The Director of Mechanical, with help from Managers, will screen applications and select a number of applicants for an interview based on the expected number of openings. The selected applicants will be then sent an email invite them to the interview process. This process should be performed 4 weeks before the start of the term.

Interviews
Each interview candidate should have a new candidate profile created based on this template to document the interviews: TODO
Interviews should be done between 2-3 weeks before the start of the term.

All members that apply to mechanical will be added to the team. If a member is inactive they will be removed.

What to look for
This interview should answer the following questions

Do we want to work with the candidate? Are they likeable?
Does this candidate seem to be qualified based on their resume and experiences. Do they at least have coding and/or hardware experience?
What are the candidate's interests and career goals? Are they applying to WATO just to have something on their resume or are they genuinely interested in the work?
What does the candidate hope to achieve during their time in WATO?
What are the candidate's existing commitments for the time that they'll be at WATO? Do they think they have enough time for it?
These are examples of the questions that should be answered in the interview, and documented in the candidate's profile.

1A Students should be recruited in the design team fair.
