We identify three roles in supporting a WATO Co-op:
1) Day to Day Manager
The Day to Day Manager is the co-op's "go to" person. Their
responsibilities are:
- Having a morning sync up (doesn't need to be more than 5 minutes)
every work day. In the sync up the Day to Day Manager goes over the
work that the co-op is planning to get done that day, and make sure
that they have enough work, and no blockers that are stopping them
from doing that work.
- Ensuring that the co-op completes their End of Work Report (EoW
Report) correctly and on time. They also have their own section on
the EoW report where they are responsible for commenting on their
co-ops work for that week. See End of Week
Reports for all the details.
- Evaluating the co-op's performance, using the midterm performance
review and the end of term performance evaluation. See Evaluating
Performance for all the
details.
The Day to Day Manager is selected by the Co-op Supervisor. Most of the
time it will be the Group Manager of the co-ops primary working group.
2) Co-op Mentor(s)
The co-op mentor(s) are previous WATO Co-ops who function as guides to
help the current co-op navigate their co-op term successfully. Their
responsibilities are:
- Having a beginning of term meet up where they describe the "tips
and tricks" for having a successful WATO co-op. This should happen
during the first 2 weeks of the co-op's employment.
- Having a midterm meet up where they ask the co-op if they have
noticed anything that is slowing down their work, or that they
don't like about their work environment. Hopefully, the Mentor can
provide insight about how they conquered those problems during their
co-op term, but if not they will elevate the problems to the Day to
Day Manager and Co-op Supervisor. This meeting should happen during
the 2nd or 3rd month of the co-op.
The Co-op Mentor(s) are selected by the Co-op Supervisor. Most of the
time it will be the one or more WATO co-ops from the previous term,
assuming they are in Waterloo during the current term.
3) Co-op Supervisor
The Co-op Supervisor is the responsible party for if anything goes wrong
with WATO's co-op policies. Their responsibilities include:
- Updating the WATO Board on the EoW
Reports and any other issues with the co-op term.
- Making sure the co-op has all the read all the policies contained in
this folder.
- Selecting the mentors and manager.
- Submitting forms to the SDC.
- Reviewing the evaluation and signing off on it.
- Making improvements to the policies.
- Overall, making sure the co-op program at WATO is a success.
